The Last Will and Testament of John Ellis of the Town of Southeast in the County of Putnam and State of New York.
I John Ellis considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being of sound mind and memory and blessed be almighty God for the same do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows to wit.
First I will and hereby direct that all my honest debts and funeral charges be paid by my executors herein after appointed.
Secondly I give and bequeath unto my two daughters Mary and Nancy Ann each twelve hundred and fifty dollars to be paid to them out of my estate by my executors within six months after my decease. Also to each of them Mary and Nancy Ann three feather beds, three bedsteads and three straw triks and cords for the said bedsteads. Also all and singular the woolen linens and cotton sheets, pillow cases and bolster cases which may be amoung my furniture and found to be marked with the initials of their or either of their respective names to each to each according to the marks. Also I give and bequearh unto the two above named daughters all the quilts and coverlets that they may claim as theirs or those that they may make from time to time for their own use. Also I give and bequeath unto the above named daughters all and singular my kitchen furniture and the furniture in my lower southwest room together with all and singular my floor carpeting to each equal. I also direct and reserve for the said Mary and Nancy Ann so long as they or either of them remain unmarried the use and occupancy of the following named apartments in my dwelling house to wit...the northwest and southwest lower rooms, east bedroom so-called and southeast upper rooms with the ....without any --- or hindrance from any one of passing and repassing to and from said rooms for and during the time they or either of them remain unmarried. I also give and bequeath unto my two daughters Mary and Nancy Ann so much wood for fuel from off the farm that I may die seized of as will and may be sufficient for one fore for and during their or either unmarried state.
Thirdly I hereby give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Cole wife of Ebenezer Cole twelve hundred dollars to be paid her by my executors for her own benefit within six months after my decease.
Fourthly I give and bequeath unto my son Richard all and singular the residue of my estate both real and personal and every kind of property of any and every description that I may die seized of after the foregoing legacies are paid and requisitions complied with together with one other that I hereby direct, that is that Richard should furnish for Mary and Nancy Ann so long as they or either of them remain single a good and gentle horse for their use to go to public worship and in -- ----- in a reasonable way together with a single waggon to harness.
I do hereby and herein appoint Ely Starr and Stephen C. Barnum of the Town of Southeast executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made.
