In 1878 they removed from Boston to Mobile, Alabama, returned in 1893. From 1895 to 1905 they resided in New York but most of the family returned then to Boston. He then resided in Pembroke until 1927.

He was prominent in the shoe industry and started business for himself in 1819 and from 1820-29 used the Adams birthplace for a shop. In 1829 he built a factory connected with the residence he built in 1829 and in 1850 built a new factory to the rear on Pearl St. where his residence was at the S. corner of 97 Franklin St. Was a boot maker in 1850 census. House barn and shop raised May 21,1829 - Journal of Franklin Curtis - W.S. Parker Coll.

He resided in East Stoughton (now Avon) on land purchased with his brothers but between 1755 and 1758 resided in Braintree (now Randolph) on land purchased of his father-in-law on North Main St., and he was elected fenceviewer here in 1756, then returned to Stoughton in 1758. His house is shown on the 1794 map of Stoughton in the History of Canton.

Sarah (Hayden) Curtis joined the Randolph Church in 1739 but the children were baptized at the Brocton Church. No settlement of his estate is on record. The published Brocton records give the years of the children's births incorrectly. Bible records of a descendant give the birth dates correctly it would seem.
