George Michael Conser Sr., the eldest son of Conrad and Elizabeth Conser, was born May 25, 1 749 on the farm of his paternal grandparents at Faulkner's Swamp Creek, near New Hanover, Phi ladelphia County, now Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He lived here until 1767 when eightee n years of age.
George accompanied his parents when they moved about 65 miles west to Newberry Township , York County, Pennsylvania in 1767 and lived there at least until 1773 when George married B arbara Fridley of Paxton Township, Lancaster County (now Dauphin County), Pennsylvania. The y probably lived just west of Paxton Township in Newberry Township, York County, Pennsylvani a until 1776.
In 1776, George was needed for service in the Revolutionary War against England. He ser ved a short stint in the Pennsylvania Navy during 1775-1776, but probably never got on a rive r or ocean. After this George joined up with the Lancaster County Militia, which was the cou nty just across the Susquehanna River from where he lived. It was also the home of his In-la ws, the Fridleys, which may have been reason for joining that Militia as at least three broth ers-in-law were in the Lancaster County Militia. He became part of the 4th and later the 10t h Battalions, which had among their officers, George's brother-in-law, Jacob Fridley. Georg e served intermittenly in the Lancaster County Militia until the end of the war in 1783. Aft er his war service, George, Barbara, and family lived in Middletown until 1793 at which tim e they purchased a farm just north of Middletown in Swartara Township, Dauphin County, Pennsy lvania.
George and family remained on the farm in Swartara Township, just north of Middletown, f rom 1793 until 1801, when they sold their farm and purchased another, about 50 miles to the n orth in West Buffalo Township, Northumberland (now Union County), Pennsylvania.
The Conser family remained on the farm in West Buffalo Township, Northumberland County ( turned Union County in 1813) from 1801 to 1825. It is presumed that George's wife, Barbara, d ied about this time in Union County and that after her death he went to live with his son, Ja cob, then living about 35 miles to the west in Miles Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania.
George, now 76 years old in 1825, lived with his son Jacob during 1825-1826. In 1826, J acob decided to move farther west to Clarion County, Pennsylvania. This resulted in George S r. making a move to live with his youngest son, George Jr., who was living closer by after ha ving recently rented a farm between Earlysville (now Tusseyville) and Potters Mill, Centre Co unty, Pennsylvania.
From 1826 until his death in 1828 George Conser lived with his son George Jr. on his far m near between Earlysville (now Tusseyville) and Potters Mill, Potters Township, Centre Count y, Pennsylvania. George died on the farm between Earlysville (now Tusseyville) and Potters M ill and was buried just a couple of miles west at "The Loop" or "Emanuel's Reformed Luthera n Church Cemetery" at the north edge of Earlysville (now Tusseyville), Potters Township, Cent re County, Pennsylvania. The grave is currently unmarked although family tradition states th at George Conser Sr. is buried there and it can be proven that the George Conser Jr. family w ere regular members of this church at the time of George Sr. death.

This deed is located in Dauphin County Recorder of Deed s, Volume 1, Deed Book N, page 312.

8. George and Barbara Conser purchased 230 acres of land in Buffalo Valley, Buffalo Township , Northumberland County (later became part of Union County), Pennsylvania can be found in Nor thumberland County Recorder of Deeds, Deed Book M, page 240, dated October 3, 1803. 22 acre s of this land was sold to Michael Lincoln on September 5, 1804.

9. Information about the death of George Conser can be supported by a May 31, 1903 letter fro m George W. Conser to his niece, Alice Green stating that "I saw my grandfather, George Conse r, in 1826, and remember him walking with a staff. He died in 1828 and was buried in the ceme tery near the German Reformed Church in what is called the Loop, in Potter Township, Centre C ounty, Pennsylvania in John Horan materials at Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Historical Soci ety; John Horan, The Conser Family; DAR Lineages #94100, #98506. It can be proved that Geor ge Conser Jr. was attending Emanuel' German Reformed Church in the Loop (later called Tusseyv ille) at the time (check George Conser Jr. notes). George Conser Sr. was to be living with Ge orge Conser Jr. at the time of his death in 1828.

Evidences about George Conser Sr., Revolutionary War Veteran, and his son, George Jr. Conser' s death and burial at Emanuel's Cemetery at Tusseyville, Pennsylvania come from these sources :

1. In a letter from George Washington Conser of Las Gates, California responding to a family query from his niece Alice E. (Conser) [Mrs. F.P.] Green of East Aurora, New York on May 31 , 1903 states: "I saw my grandfather in 1826, and remembered him as walking with a staff. M y grandfather must have had one brother, at least, for my father had two or three cousins who resided in Centre County, Pennsylvania., 75 years ago. My grandfather, George Conser, served in the Revolutionary War in the Pennsylvania Division, commanded by Anthony Wayne, all under Washington. He was in the following battles: Trenton, Princeton, Monmouth, below Philadelphia in New Jersey, Brandywine and Germantown, and at the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown. He likewise was at Valley Forge and partook of the sufferings endured during that horrid winter. He died in 1828 and was buried in the cemetery near the German Reformed Church in what is called the Loop, in Potter Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania. Now my dear Niece, I am in my 85th year, therefore my life reaches back into the lives of whom I write, having personally seen many of them. Oh, it makes us tremble at the flight of time and your Aunt join s me in sending our love and regards to you, Mr. Green and his Mother."

The author of this letter, George Washington Conser, was born March 4, 1819 in Centre County, Pennsylvania and would have been six years of age when he remembered seeing his grandfather who at the time would have been living with his family. George Washington Conser died seven years after writing this letter in 1910 at the age of 91. This letter is located in the Conser/Henrici/Horan file of the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Historical Society Library . Most of this information was placed here by John P. Horan, a nephew of Alice E. (Conser) G reen, after writing his history, The Conser Family (Puncsatawney, Pa: 1966). John P. Hora n was a Great Grandson of George Conser through George's son Jacob Conser.

2. The DAR records of Mrs. Belle (Kean) Kane a descendant of George Conser through his son Jacob, DAR Lineage Book, #94100, Volume XCV, 1927, page 33 and Mrs. Mary E. (Conser) Smith , a descendant of George Conser through his son Henry, DAR Lineage Book, #98506, Volume XCIX , 1928, page 158, both claim that George Conser Sr. died in Potters Township, Centre County , Pennsylvania.

3. Max Henrici, a GGG-grandson of George Conser through George's son Henry, and in the 1930 s editorial writer for the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Sun-Telegraph, wrote a letter on May 15 , 1936 to Robert C. Kelley, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who was in charge of a Veterans Graves Survey t hat must have been ongoing at the time. In the letter, Henrici claims, "I have been told that he (George Conser) died in Potters Township, also that he died in a district of Centre County known as 'The Loop'." This letter is located under the Conser/Henrici/Horan Family file in the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Historical Society Library.

4. Arthur Martin Conser, a Great-grandson of George Conser through George's son, George Jr. , wrote a letter to his nephew, Leroy Newton Conser on August 10, 1924 stating, "He (George Conser) died in 1828 and is buried near a German Reformed Church in Potter Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania." I, Jim Bish of Manassas, Virginia, have the original copy of this letter. Leroy Newton Conser was my maternal grandfather.

5. In the book by John P. Horan, The Conser Family (Puncsatawney, Pa: 1966) information abo ut George Conser Sr. can be located on pages 8-11 and information about George Conser Jr. ca n be found on page 185. John P. Horan states on page 10, "George Sr. went to live with his y oungest son, George Jr., and on a rented farm in "The Loop" between Churchville (Tusseyville ) and Potters Mill, Potters Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania., where he died in 1828. This explains th e burial place of George Sr., in a German Reformed Church Cemetery in 'The Loop', Potters Twp ., Centre County, Pennsylvania." Also on page 185, Horan states, "They (George Conser Jr. family) moved t o a farm in "The Loop" of Sinking Creek between Tusseyville (then Churchville) and Potters Mi lls, Potters Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania., where he (George Conser Jr.) died in 1832 and was buri ed beside his father in the German Lutheran Church Cemetery nearby."
According to Centre County, Pennsylvania internet sources, among other libraries the Conser Famil y by John Horan can be found in the Pennsylvania Room at the Centre County Library and Histor ical Museum in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.

6. The George Conser Jr. family is listed in the 1830 U.S. Census, living in Potters Townsh ip, Centre County, Pennsylvania. [1830 U.S. Census, Potters Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania, Roll #165, p . 346]. This would have placed them near Tusseyville.

7 This is by far the most important record of all as it proves that the George Conser Jr . family attended Emanuel's Church at the time of the death of George Conser Sr. and Georg e Conser Jr. George and Maria Catherine must have moved to near Tusseyville around 1826 as th ey are listed as attending the Emanuel's Church at the Loop (Tusseyville) beginning in Marc h 1827. George Conser Jr. and Maria's last four children Sarah, Amelia, George, and Susann a were born near Tusseyville between 1827 and 1832 and were baptized at the Emanuel's Churc h at the Loop according to Emanuel Church records [listed in church records as George and Mar y Catharine or Catharine Gantzer] located in, Notes and Queries: Historical, Biographical, a nd Genealogical relating chiefly to Interior Pennsylvania, edited by William Henry Egle, Annu al Volume 1898 (published originally in 1899 at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania reprinted, Baltimore: Genealo gical Publishing Company, 1970], pp. 114.
At the time of George Conser Sr. death in 1828 the family would have buried him in Emanu el's Church Cemetery as the family was definitely attending Emanuel's Church at that time. S arah Conser (Gantzer) was baptized at Emanuel's Church on April 15, 1827 and Amelia Conser (G antzer) was baptized there on August 3, 1828. George Conser Sr. died in 1828 near the same t ime his granddaughters were baptized. George Conser Jr. died in February 1832 and family tra dition maintains that he was buried in Emanuel's Church cemetery next to his father who passe d away while living with George Jr. in 1828. This is undoubtedly true as George Conser Jr.' s youngest child, Susanna, was born on August 31, 1831, just six months before George Conse r Jr. death and she was baptized on May 6, 1832, three months after her father's death.

8. Estate records for George Conser Jr. [Letters of Administration of Estate for George Con ser] are located at the Office of Register of Centre County, Pennsylvania at Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. The Recor ds are listed in Estate # 751, George Conser, Late of Potter Township, died around 1832. The se records list John Walkey as the Administrator for the Estate of George Conser. John Walke y was the closest neighbor of George Conser and is listed as living next to him in the 1830 C ensus.

9. On page 407 of John Blair Linn's History of Centre and Clinton Counties (1883) it state s Emanuel's Church as the church built in "the Loop" which is exactly what has been passed do wn in our family as the place of burial of George Conser Sr. and George Conser Jr. This pie ce mentions that the church was to Christopher Henney in trust who was the grandfather of Ame lia Conser Henney's husband, David. David Henney, is also mentioned in this piece as an elde r in the church when History of Centre County was written in 1883. David and Amelia (Conser ) Henney lived near Potters Mill where David worked as a blacksmith until Amelia's death in 1 892.

10. The Records of Emanuel's Church given on page 23 of Notes and Queries: Historical, Biogr aphical, and Genealogical relating chiefly to Interior Pennsylvania, edited by William Henr y Egle clearly matches as the correct church which has been passed down in family tradition t hat George Conser and George Conser Jr. are buried at the "Church at the Loop."

11. Two daughters of George Conser Jr. (Mary and Amelia) married boys that were baptized an d grew up in Emanuel's Church. The birth and baptisms of these can be found on page 14 and 1 5 of Notes and Queries: Historical, Biographical, and Genealogical relating chiefly to Interi or Pennsylvania. The Conser children most likely met the From and Henney children while atten ding the church and living in the close proximity. Mary Conser (Gantzer) married John From (F romm) who was baptized into the church and whose parents, Jonas and Elizabeth (Keller) From , are buried in the Church Cemetery. Amelia Conser (Gantzer) married David Henney (Hennig) w ho was also baptized in the church and whose parents, John and Sarah Henney are also buried i n the church cemetery. The Cemetery records can be found in on internet web address: http://w ww.rootsweb.com/~pacentre/tussey1.htm

12. Amelia (Conser) Henney also died in the Tusseyville area is buried in the same Emanuel' s Church Cemetery as her father, George Jr. and grandfather, George Conser Sr. Her tombston e record can be found in Emmanuel's Church Cemetery in Tusseyville, 1997 on internet web addr ess: http://www.rootsweb.com/~pacentre/tussey1.htm which matches her birth records (June 24 , 1828) as found on page 114 in Notes and Queries: Historical, Biographical, and Genealogica l relating chiefly to Interior Pennsylvania, edited by William Henry Egle.
Also, Amelia's sister, Sarah (Conser) Burnett's tombstone in Maquon Cemetery of Knox county , Illinois, located on page 58, Cemeteries of Knox County, Haw Creek Township, Illinois by th e Knox County Genealogical Society matches with her birth records (March 5, 1827) of Emanuel' s Church located on page 114 in Notes and Queries: Historical, Biographical, and Genealogica l relating chiefly to Interior Pennsylvania, edited by William Henry Egle.[2485774[1].GED]
