Nathaniel1 Wales, "the eldest son" embarked at Bristol May 23,1635 arriving at Boston Aug.17,1635 in the "James" which also brought Rev. Richard Mather of Dorchester who mentions him in his journal of the voyage.
Nathaniel Wales married 1st a wife who possibly was a sister of Edward Bullock or Humphrey Atherton of Dorchester, or a sister of a wife of one of them as the former called Nathaniel Wales "brother Wales" in papers in his estate settlement in 1649 and Humphrey Atherton is referred to by Nathaniel Wales as his "loving - brother-in-law" in his will. It has been stated that Mary wife of Maj. Humphrey Atherton was a sister of Nathaniel Wales, but this is not borne out by the will of John Wales, father of Nathaniel, who names no daughters in his will.
He settled at Dorchester where he and wife Susan were in the list of Church members about 1636 and was made freeman of the Colony Nov.2,1637
Feb.5,1650 or 1651

perhaps a daughter of John Yardley (or Yearly) who married Dorothy Thayer
She is not mentioned by John Wlld in his will dated Jun.28,1727. It is apparent that they must have had a premarital contract giving her no rights in his estate which he gave to his children, but seems strange such a contract is not on record. That she was alive and survived him at least thirty years is proven by Suffolk Probate records (60-253) when on Apr.9,1762 Caleb Hobart was made guardian of Mary Wild, widow, non-compos mentis, and was bonded with Gideon Thayer of Boston, gentleman. They were her sons in law, (having married her daughters by John Hollis)
