Thomas1 (son of William Holbrook) was born near 1594 according to his own depositions. His age given in the sailing list of Hull's company as 34 at time of sailing for New England Mar.20,1634/5 is evidently incorrect.

He was married Sep.12,1616 (when aged about 22) at St. John's Church, Glastonbury to Jane Powyes who was aged 34 in 1634/5 according to the sailing list in the Public Record Office in London, and Thomas Holbrook was then a resident of Broadway, of which there are three places so named in Somersetshire.

He died at Weymouth, Mass. about Mar.,1677, leaving a will dated Dec.31,1668 in which he mentions wife Jane, sons John, William, and Thomas, and daughters Anne Reynolds, Elizabeth Hatch, and Jane Drake, and grand children John, Peter, and William Holbrook. The will was confirmed Dec.31,1673 and proved Apr.24,1677, and the inventory was dated Mar.10,1677.

The list of persons who came in Rev. Joseph Hull's company in March 1634/5 from Weymouth, England includes Thomas Holbrooke of Broadway, aged 34 years (error) Jane Holbrooke his wife, aged 34 years, John Holbrooke, his son aged 11 years (should be 17 years) Thomas Holbrooke, his son aged 10 years, Anne Holbrooke his daughter aged 5 years, Elizabeth, his daughter aged 1 year.

They arrived at Dorchester Jun.7,1635 and settled at Weymouth for which they obtained permission from the General Court July 1635. Thomas Holbrook had a grant of land in Weymouth as mentioned in the 1643 list of land owners, but his lands were not registered in that list. He and son John also are among the original Rehoboth land owners but forfeited their lands for not removing thither - Bliss, Hist. of Rehoboth p. 29-30).

Thomas Holbrook deposed in court Nov.2,1666 about 77 years (should read 72 years) about the coming of Rev. Joseph Hull's company to Weymouth. (Suffolk Court Files #815). He was made freeman of the Colony May 1645, and held many town offices at Weymouth, was one of a committee to lay out the country highway to Dorchester from Weymouth in 1648.

He was made a freeman of Massachusetts Bay Colony, May, I townsman (selectman), 1645, 1646, 1651, 1652, and 1654.

Ten acres were granted to him in the First Division and Second Division, 14 Dec. 1663.(Weymouth Land Grants, 283,~ 284.)

"Being sick and weak" he made his will 31 Dec. 1668, bequeathing unto his wife Jane, his sons John Holbrooke, William Holbrook and Thomas Holbrook, and unto his daughters Anne Rennolds, Elizabeth Hatch, and Jane Drake and unto his grandchildren John Holbrook, Peter Holbrook and William Holbrook, and to all of his grandchildren that shall be living-at his wife Jane's death his property. He stated that his grandson Peter Holbrook had served him and his wife in their old age for about eight years, for which he was to have his dwelling house in Weymouth with the orchard and arable land. This will he confirmed 31 Dec. 1673, and it was proved 24 Apr. 1677. His inventory, taken 10 Mar. 1677, calls him "late of Weymouth dec'd."

Mary (Jacob) Otis, widow of John Otis Jr. of Scituate.
Mary (Jacob) (Otis) Holbrook had a sister Hannah (Jacob) (Loring) French wife of Stephen French which accounts for Capt. John Holbrook calling Stephen French his brother in his will.
This is contrary to many published works but is proved by Vol.1 of Plymouth Col.. Deeds which states "Capt. John Holbrook of Weymouth and Mary his wife, sole executrix of the will of John Otis late of Scituate, to Joseph Otis of Scituate one of ye sons of said John Otis and Mary", dated Apr.23,1693.
