His children were born probably at Dorchester, except the last one, and three of them were baptized in 1660 at Falmouth (now Portland) Maine where he apparently intended to settle.

He was a weaver by trade and inherited his father's homestead on present Commercial St. opposite Adams St., Braintree which descended from his daughter Esther Thayer to her daughter Mary Loring in whose family it remained until burned in 1906. The house was said to have had seaweed in the walls for insulation against cold and heat. He was elected fenceviewer 1720, constable 1722 but succeeded in having his brother Elkanah serve in his stead. His wife was a member of the church in 1711 and he was admitted in 1732, perhaps from the Quincy Church where his father was elder.

He was a cabinet maker & carpenter, lived on the hill on Elm St. north side, where his grandson George O. Wales built a stone house, later the Drinkwater estate, demolished in 1948.
