Dr. Ephraim Wales "a man of science, and eminent in his profession" graduated at Harvard in 1768 and practiced medicine in his native town. He and wife joined the Randolph Church in 1772. He marched at the Lexington Alarm in 1775, was on the Committee of Safety 1776. He favored inoculation for small pox when public sentiment had not become used to it and the town voted "to treat with Dr. Wales in regard to his inoculating for small pox against a town vote of the town" in 1777 and it was voted "to lay Dr. Wales under restriction", but finally it was voted "Drs. Baker and Wales have leave to continue their inoculating hospitals." He resided on the north east part of his father's homestead on So. Main St, Randolph, but for a short time lived in present Quincy, about 1781, on the estate he sold to the Beale family next west of the President John Adams Mansion. He held a few offices and was moderator of town meeting 1791. He was a proprietor of Braintree, Vt, but did not remove there.

Nath'l Wales child buried Jul.1,1750 (Ch.Rec) aged 3yrs. 2mo. 7ds. said gs. formerly in Elm St. Cem., now gone.
The parentage of Elizabeth Wales is most puzzling: Capt. Nathaniel Wales had a daughter Elizabeth born Apr.22,1747 by wife Anna, who died Jun.29,1750, bur. Jul.1,1750 (Ch.Rec.) and another Elizabeth born Apr.13,1755. "Elizabeth Wales, daughter of Nathaniel & Elizabeth born Apr.22,1745", says the original record. Nathaniel Wales had no wife Elizabeth, nor does the probate of his estate mention any daughter Elizabeth. It is possible she was an illegitimate child, but there seems to be an error in the Braintree records.
I have entered alternate parents for Elizaeth. Both with Nathaniel Wales and illegitimate union with Elizabeth Wiswell? and With Nathaniel Wales and Anna Waldo. SRR

Proof of his marriage at age of 16 lies in the will of widow Ann (Waldo) (Fitch) Wales dated 1798, in which she bequeaths to her grand daughter Ann Field wife of Gilford Field and in the fact that Ann Field was also heir of Nathaniel Wales. Also Daniel Hayward had land adjoining that of Nathaniel Wales on the easterly side.

He was a weaver by trade, and removed as early as 1727 to the south precinct to a homestead, now on South St. in Holbrook, just south of the railroad crossing where his descendants remained for about 150 years. The old house was on the west side of the road, but several later ones stood in the vicinity on both sides of the street.
He was elected surveyor of highways 1729,1734, tithingman 1736,1741, and in 1737.
He and his wife joined the Randolph Church in 1731 soon after it's formation.
His son John inherited the house and immediate part of the lands.
"Joanna, ye daughter of Mehetable White, by Joseph Wales, (as she sais) was born 6th January 1720" according to Braintree records. She is not mentioned in his will which names his seven sons and three daughters. Joanna Wales, the above, married Mar.10,1743, Benjamin Ludden.
