Reuben Thayer joined the So. Parish Church in 1767 and Sarah Linfield also. He was a Revolutionary soldier in 1776-7,1784, and gave a receipt for pay in 1790.
On Jun.1,1773 David Linfield sold to Reuben Thayer and wife Sarah 40 acres of wood land in South Precinct (S.D.124-208) and Reuben Thayer and wife Sarah of Sterling, Conn. sold to Caleb Thayer of Sterling, Conn. 40 acres in Randolph that we bought of David Linfield in 1773, dated Sep.4,1809 (N.D.42-181).
On May 23,1793 Reuben Thayer made an indenture of life lease with William Linfield Jr. to William Linfield Sr. by which Reuben Thayer agreed to support his father in law William Linfield Sr. for life in return for the use of 40 acres which Reuben Thayer had leased to William Linfield Jr. and to winter one cow, and plow one acre for him, etc. - From an original document now in possession of Quincy Historical Society - (also another one like it dated Sep.24,1794.)
Reuben Thayer of Sterling, Conn. left a will dated Jun.26,1811, proved Nov.7,1826 giving to wife Sarah improvement of all real estate for life. To three grandsons Joseph, Oates (Otis) and Caleb Thayer $3.33 together with what I have given their father Timothy Thayer, deceased.
To son Caleb Thayer all real estate at decease of my wife and he to be executor. In an account dated Oct.2,1827 the executor states the legacies have not been called for, they being absent, except that Sarah, deceased before the death of the testator. Dated at Plainfield, by Caleb Thayer.
The inventory mentions half the old farm, undivided, containing 80 acres, etc. (Hartford, Ct. Files, Plainfield Dist. #2095).
For descendants of the son Caleb Thayer, etc., see "Ancestors of Adelbert P. Thayer, Florence Thayer McCray, and George Burton Thayer" compiled by Geo. Burton Thayer (1894).

Rebecca the widow, and Benjamin the son were administrators of his estate Jan.3,1705(6) and her account filed Apr.4,1713 as the surviving administrator includes "a debt paid to Benjamin Lynde £38 cash paid to Samuel Lynde £5/6/6-", which may represent the clearing of the mortgage that had involved his father in such protracted litigation. The estate was settled upon John Thayer the second surviving son, as Richard the oldest surviving son declined it, and he paid off the other heirs, to widow Margaret Thayer in behalf of her children, Margaret, Benjamin, & Zebulon, a double portion, Richard Thayer, Rebecca Bolter, Mary, Deborah, Anna and Obadiah Thayer, or their guardians, his mother to have her dower.
