Graduated at Harvard Coll. 1795. He was a physician in Braintree but died single Dec.22,1805 a.30. He had 5 acres of land and a small house (N.P.21-453).

Dr. Elisha Thayer studied medicine, became a physician in Bethel, Windsor, Vt. where he married.
He was admitted to the South Church, Dedham, Feb.9,1816 from the "original Congregational Church" of Wrentham and his wife joined Mar.24,1816, and they withdrew to the new First Congregational Church in 1818. He was dismissed to the Episcopal Church of Dedham Feb.17,1832 in which he was confirmed Jul.13,1830.
He was master of the Masonic Lodge in Dedham and was postmaster there for 33 years but resigned in 1856 after the death of his wife and returned to Braintree to live with a daughter on Washington St., near School St. In Dedham his house is still standing (demolished about 1952) and owned by his great grandson Arthur Thayer, next west of the Dedham Historical Society building on High St. Dr. Elisha Thayer published in 1835 the Thayer Memorial, one of the earliest American family genealogies, and very useful in spite of the peculiar system employed. His great grand daughter Miss Marion S. Arnold of Braintree was one of the town's most active historians until her death in 1947.

Dr. Elisha Thayer, physician, of Braintree left a will dated Jan.1,1858, proved July 1860, giving to his son Elisha F. Thayer his medical books and instruments, to his daughter Maria F. Glackin $100 for her care of him and his wife in sickness, to his grand daughter Mary Frances Glackin, to son George H. Thayer $100 for his services in the post office at Dedham. To his executors $400 in trust for his children who are in need. Remainder to his five children Nancy B. Arnold, Elisha F. Thayer, Maria F. Glackin, John H.B. Thayer of Dedham, George H. Thayer of Chelsea, the last two being executors (N.P.104-9).

He resided chiefly in Boston where he was an apothecary or druggist on Newbury (now Washington) St. at the corner of Essex St. and his step son in law John Isaac Brown succeeded him there.
Dr. Stephen Thayer had property in Braintree and died here. He was listed in Braintree in the 1820 census. He was made guardian of his two children Apr.15,1811 (S.P.394-158-9). He died intestate and Ebenezer C. Thayer was made administrator, as he died leaving four children (two step children), no widow, and was bonded with Minot Thayer of Braintree and John I. Brown of Boston, Jul.3,1841 (N.P.74-291).

Ebenezer Thayer was admitted to full communion Oct.4,1700 and had children baptized Ebenezer, Ruth, Hannah, & Rachel, Dec.22,1700; Eleazer Jan.19,1700/1; Deborah Mar.22,1702; Eleazer Jan.30,1703/4; Ruth Aug.26,1705; Ruth Jul.6,1707.

He died intestate and widow Ruth was made administrator Jul.18,1720 (S.P. 11-231, N.S.). The inventory shows "the west end of a new house & half the cellar", (his mother was in the east end) "the old housing and barn on both sides the way". planting, mowing, and pasture lands 43 acres, etc.
The widow left a will dated Jan.31,1733/4 mentioning her son Ebenezer, daughter Hannah Frasier of Boston, daughter Rachel wife of Ephraim Arnold, daughter Deborah Thayer, daughter Ruth wife of William Penniman, Elizabeth wife of John Hobart, and grand daughter Ruth Penniman a minor.
Real estate to be divided between Ruth Penniman & Elizabeth Hobart, her daughters. (S.P. 35-55).
The son Ebenezer Jr. had already obtained the homestead and lived there near the corner of present Elm & Cedar Sts. and he obtained quit claims to it in 1730,1751,1742, etc. (S.D. 85-11, 85-12, 85-13).
