He was a cordwainer, resided in Watertown in 1708 when they sold land there, & were in Braintree So. Precinct in 1711 when they & her brother John Stone sold land in Watertown (Mid. Deeds 25-115 & 23-126). He was involved in a kidnapping in 1730 and one Moses Spear, his son, was judged to be a son of John & Lydia (Thwing) Scott of Braintree & Lunenburg, and name changed to John Scott. (Mass Archives 105-408-9) in 1752. (See also Thwing Index at Mass. Hist. Soc.).
He was elected hogreave 1725.

Samuel Spear Jr. was dismissed from No. Parish to Middle Parish Church Apr.14,1751 where wife Mary was admitted 1752 and in 1754 they were admitted to So. Parish Church. He bought land at Braintree, Vt. in 1787 and probably removed there with his children.

William & Hannah Spear's gravestones were erected in 1827 by their grandson Daniel Spear, so they tell.
He was elected constable 1755,1758,1759,1760,1762 but was excused every year from serving.
He was taxed 1778 for real & personal estate in North Parish, but paid no poll tax.
