JOHN WILLIAM SHAMBAUGH, 61, of 2000 Matheny Dr., died in CommunityMemorial Hospital, Sep. 24, 1973 of a heart attack following anincident where deputies say there was about a 30-minute delay beforethe man was able to receive medical care.
Originally from Shauck, John W. Shambaugh had been employed in thehome improvements department of Sears Roebuck and Co. 23 years. Hewas an infantry staff sergeant in the Third Army in Europe duringWorld War II.
His parents were C. Guy and Stella Haldeman Shambaugh. Surviving arehis widow, Emma Louise Emerson Shambaugh; his mother of Galion; 2sons, John Stephen of Colton, Calif., and Jerry Neal of Springfield; adaughter, Mrs. Jerry (Mary Sue) Lawrence of Springfield; 7grandchildren; 2 brothers, Henry of Bellville and Lowell of 435 S.Seffner Ave., and a sister, Mrs. Garcia (Marjorie) Warner of Galion.
The Rev. James A. Rave officiated. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemeteryat Mechanicsburg, Ohio.
Pallbears were fellow employees of the Sears Roebuck and Co., CharlesBrown, David Decker, John Fetter, Donald Myers, Joseph Kimmel andWilliam Rush.
Man Dies: Blame Cut Phone Cable, Marion, OhioIO (AP) - A Marionresident died of a heart attack Monday morning after cut telephonecables delayed his wife from seeking help for 30 minutes, the MarionCounty sheriff's department said.
John Shambaugh, 61, suffered the attack about 2 a.m., duputies said.His wife was unable to call for help because their neighborhood hadbeen isolated from telephone service due to a cable cut. A neighborcalled for emergency service from the sheriff's department, butShambaugh died in a hospital.
Deputies said they are considering filing criminal charges againstwhoever was responsible for the vandalism.[bortner.FTW]
