Ryford (Riford,Wriford,Bryford,Biford,Reiford)

This variable but distinctive surname seems to be first of record when Joseph Bryford married Sarah Spear "both of Dorchester" Mar.19,1726 at Boston.
Joseph Ryford probably died before Jul.4,1742 when the last child was called daughter of Sarah Ryford at her baptism but there is no settlement of his estate.

S.P.56-143: Joseph Wriford of Weymouth made administrator of his brother John Wriford, mariner, late of Weymouth, deceased, Feb.5,1760.

56-302, Feb.28,1760, Inventory: To cash for his wages etc. £13/4/, -316 account. Debt due to the accountant etc. £56/2/9.

The 1790 census Of Braintree, Norfolk, Mass. lists him as Joseph Bifford with 1-3-5.
Randolph Ch.Rec. (town copy) says - Ryford of Braintree, Vt. died - 1805 (sic).

In 1755 he bought half a house & 12 acres on North Main St., Randolph west side from Ebenezer Hayward.
S.P.61-111, Oct.1,1762: Hannah Ryford of Braintree, widow, made administrator of husband Lazarus Ryford, yeoman & bonded with Nathaniel Nyles, yeoman & Aaron Hayward, husbandman.

-161, Inventory: 10 acres on E. & W. sides of the road that leads from So. Meeting House by Blew Hills to Boston, orchard, tillage & pasturing & half an old dwelling house thereon. £61/6/8, taken by Thomas Wales, Benjamin Porter, Nathaniel Niles, Nov.12,1762.

62-117, Dower of widow Hannah Ryford: 1 1/2 acres orchard on W. side of the Blew Hills road with the E. end or half of a dwelling house, from the S.E. corner of the house by said road as the wall stands to a heap of stones, & then Wly. to a heap of stones in the orchard, then to an old stone wall at W. side of the orchard, then to a well & across the well with half of it to the first bound. Mar.31,1763. Allowed May 20.
