He resided about 1774 on North side of Dyer Hill (S.D. 126-154) and in 1777 bought a homestead on the old Faxon farm near North St. (now Granite St.)(S.D. 127-147) which he sold in 1781 (161-270). In 1806 he resided on Pond St., west of Town St. in a house now standing perhaps, but much altered, later the homestead of Capt. Wm. Reed, his son in law. About 1809 he removed to Washington, N.H. where his brother Thomas was. He held town offices too numerous to mention.

Will of Stephen Penniman of Washington, N.H., dated Nov.22,1823, proved Jan.16,1828:
To wife Sarah improvement of half of estate for life.
To son Stephen $1 and my wearing apparel.
To dau. Zubah French $1.
To dau. Anna Heath $1.
To dau. Relief Read $1.
To dau. Betsey Penniman $1.
To grandson Stepen Penniman 3rd, my gun.
To grandsons Calvin Thayer & Elihu Thayer, sons of dau. Sarah, deceased, 50 cents each.
To daughters Dorcas Penniman & Mary Penniman all remainder of estate & they to be executors.

From 1778 to 1784 he resided on Elm St., north side, east of the hill on a place bought of William French, and sold it in 1784 to Nathaniel Wales (S.D. 129-72; 160-47). He was a Revolutionary Soldier. He was elected hogreave 1773.
S.D.140-177, Apr.19,1783 - Meshech Penniman & w. Ruth administrators of estate of Lemuel Dwelle, & guardian of Lemuel & John Dwelle, to Lemuel Clarke 1/2 a. & bldgs., S. on Plymouth Road, N. on [Monatiquot] River, E. heirs of Thomas Vinton, W. sold to Ambrose Salisbury.

Resided with his father in 1806. Removed to Hingham about 1818 and died there. His children were born at Braintree, but are not on record and their births are taken from a sampler made by Eunice T. (Penniman) Lakin, in possession 1940 of her grandson, the late Arthur Elliot Sproul of New York City, when she was aged 10 or 11 years.
