Peter Miser, the third son of Samuel and Catherine (Barkey) Miser, is a
native of Coshocton County, Ohio, born Jan. 16, 1836. His father was born
in Jefferson County, Ohio, May 6, 1809, and died Oct. 30, 1883. His mother
was born in Pennsylvania Feb. 9, 1814. She was a schoolmate of Joseph
Gardner, of this township. In 1848 they came to De Kalb County, Ind., where
he bought 160 acres of timber-land for which he paid $650. He built a log
house into which he moved his family, which consisted at that time of s
children. They were members of the German Reformed church, and he was one
of the elders for over thirty years, and a friend and associate of Rev.
J.G. Kissell, the first preacher of the denomination in this part of the
State. The mother is still living, aged seventy-two years. She is the
mother of ten children, eight of whom are living---John, Peter, Christian,
Susannah, wife of Christian Rohm; Mary, wife of Albert Fickes; Elizabeth A.,
wife of George Bowser. Mrs. Miser has forty-six grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren. Peter Miser was fourteen years of age when his
parents came to this county. He received a good education in the common
schools, remaining with his parents till maturity. He was married in 1857
to Elizabeth Kissell, a native of Ohio, daughter J.G. and Susannah,
native of Pennsylvania. To them have been born nine children, eight of
whom are living---Mary E., wife of Joseph Cochran; Sylvester A., John G
Samuel A., Causa A., Henry W., William O. and Susannah C. Edward is
deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Miser are members of the German Reformed church.
