Resided in Braintree Highlands, north of his father's house. It has been stated that the widow Mary Holbrook had 21 children, never weighed 100 lbs. and between 75 & 90 years of age knitted tidies and sold $6000 worth. She is in 1850 census at Randolph with son Elisha A. & dau. Lucinda Warren on No. Franklin St., Holbrook near Braintree line. He was baptized Aug.10,1823, adult at East Randolph.
They had 21 children, or 19, or 23, various accounts.

John Holbrook was made a freeman of the Colony May 13,1640, hence was aged 17 and not 11 as given in the shipping list when he came over with his parents in March 1635.
No inventory in Suffolk Probate.
He was made a freeman 13 May, 1640 (Register, 3: 187); selectman, 1648 and 1656; deputy from Weymouth, 1651, 1664, 1669, 1671, 1672, 1673;
Captain in King Philip's War, 1676
He resided in "Old Spain."
"Being weak of body'; he made his will 12 July, 1699, as follows: To his wife Mary Holbrook.ESO, and X10,provided she give thereof,, X5 to her daughter Loring. , To son John Holbrook his housing and lands in Scituate, and he use of one-half to his now I wife Abigail after his decease; the other half to his grandson John, son of his said son John Holbrook. After the decease of son John and his wife Abigail the whole farm to his aforesaid grandson, John Holbrook, he to pay X40 to the six daughters of his said son John Holbrook. U granddaughter Elizabeth, the wife of James Smith, Z5. To his granddaughter Abigail Porter L10. To the children of his said son Samuel, use of land adjoining her dwelling house in "Kingman's Neck," etc.; also 40 acres near the "Physical Spring" m Weymouth, till his grandson Joseph Holbrook, son of~.his said son Samuel, attain the age of one-and-twenty. Mr. Samuel Torrey, Pastor of the Church in Weymouth, 95. His Indian servant Anthony to have his freedom in twelve years. Executors, his sons John Holbrook. Ichabod Holbrook and Ephraim Hunt, Esq., to whom he gave 95. His friends John Rogers and Joseph Dyer and his ench, overseers; proved 14 Dec. 1699. (Suffolk brothe~ Stephen Ft Probate Records, 14: 3.) He deposed that he was 45 years of age or thereabout, 22 Apr 1667. (Suffolk Court Files, 815.)
This is contrary to many published works but is proved by Vol.1 of Plymouth Col.. Deeds which states "Capt. John Holbrook of Weymouth and Mary his wife, sole executrix of the will of John Otis late of Scituate, to Joseph Otis of Scituate one of ye sons of said John Otis and Mary", dated Apr.23,1693.

Resided on Pond St. west side, in 1806, in a house occupied in 1892 by Geo. E. Arnold - S.A. Bates, near Randolph. He was elected surveyor of highways 1771, hogreave 1776, surveyor 1778, on the alewife committee 1783,1784, fenceviewer 1785, fish committee 1786,1787, assessor 1788, and surveyor of highways, assessor 1789,1790, surveyor of highways 1791.

He is not mentioned in the shipping list with his parents in March 1635. Perhaps came later as a servant or apprentice, but is named in his father's will.
He was made freeman May 26,1647.
He was one of the original grantees in 1663 at Mendon where he resided until forced to return in 1675 by the Indian War when that town was abandoned, and settled thereafter at Scituate.
Plymouth Probate - 309 - Will of William Holbrooke of Scituate in Co. of Plymouth in N.E. being weak in body etc. To wife Abigail all that estate of household goods which she brought Sep.9,1696 with her in marriage to me that is now left and not worn up & all that stock of cattell which she brought with her & that when that stock be made good as it then was then all the increase of our stock of cattell and money cloth or other goods if any be at my decease shall be equally divided between my wife and my executor & further I give her one green rugg besides what she brought with her for her own and she shall have the use of one warming pan, one pair of curtains and one pair of iron andirons during her natural life, then to be returned again to my executor; and further I give the sum of £3 a year upon condition that she will deliver up to my executor within one week after my decease a writing of agreement made between my said wife & myself concerning our estate before our marriage together, and also that she relinquish & give up all right & interest unto & in my estate, but if she stand to hold to her interest in my estate according to said writing all above said gifts & bequeaths to be void. To son Cornelius Holbrooke all lands, right of lands & common privileges in Weymouth & the bill of £5 he oweth me he paying to his daughter Mehetabel Holbrooke £5 in money at marriage or age 21. To son William Holbrooke 20/ & my gun called a carbine which with what I have formally given him shall be the whole of his portion. To daughter Elizabeth Bick £12. To dau. Hopestill Reed £12. To dau. Mehetabel Sprague £12 to be paid by her husband out of the £20 he oweth me, & the remainder her husband Jonathan Sprague shall pay to my executor. To dau. Jane Balcome £12 and said Jane shall pay 40/ of said sum to her dau. Albee. To my eldest son Samuel Holbrooke all remainder of my estate. If any try to break the will they are to forfeit their share. Son Samuel executor. W.H. his mark.
