Ensign Thomas French was elected constable for the So. Precinct 1780 but presented his son Thomas to serve in his place.
He removed to the So. Parish in 1769 as shown by the baptisms of his children and resided on west side of North St., south of Pleasant St. He was a tanner. Ensign Thomas French was at Halifax in 1759 (Reg. 28-413) also an officer Apr.1759 (Reg. Vol.15).
S.P.91-141: Will of Thomas French, gent., Nov.1,1791 - Feb.28,1792:
All indoor moveables to wife Silence and all real & personal estate to be sold at residue to highest bidder & the produce to be put in hands of Capt. Silence (sic) Wild (= Silas) to be paid to my wife so long as a widow & she to receive part of the principal if necessary, but if she marry then my ten children Thomas, Timothy, Jotham, Luther, Jonathan, William, Silence, Wales, Sarah Niles, Susanna Clark & Polly Alden shall have 2/3 of the principal equally divided & the remainder at her decease.
Sons Thomas & Luther executors. Witness: Eliphalet Sawen, Simeon Alden & Samuel Bass.
