About 1806 he built a brick mansion house of three stones on S. side of Commercial St. east of Washington Square, Weymouth Landing opposite the old Arnold Tavern. The brick mansion is still standing (1952) and is a notable example of Georgian or Federal Architecture, such as were common at Salem and Boston at that period. It is usually referred to as the Arnold - Cowing - Bates ? house, from the owners Samuel Arnold, Francis H. Cowing and --. It is now the rectory of the adjacent Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Braintree records says - "Samuel Arnold formerly of Weymouth, living in Boston about 18 months, brought to his mother's Sep.23, and died Sep.28,1816 a. 42".

Administration of his estate was granted to Sarah, his widow, 5 Nov. 1816, who states that Abraham Thayer, Jr.,, married the daughter of the deceased. The latter was a tailor, and resided in Braintree.
On 11 Feb , 1817, Sarah Arnold, widow refers to her five young children in her Petition. They are not named in the settlement of the estate. (Norfolk Probate, 611)
